After months of wait, Xiaomi finally launched the budget Xiaomi Redmi 5 in India on Wednesday. The smartphone will be available to buy on e-commerce website Amazon and Xiaomi's own Mi.com website and Mi Home stores. The device is also expected to be made available at offline retail partners in the near future. According to Xiaomi, all units to be sold in India will be manufactured in India under the Make in India initiative.
Price and offers:
In India, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be available in three RAM/Storage variants. The base 2GB RAM/16GB storage variant will be listed for Rs 7,999, the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage version will retail for Rs 8,999, while the 4GB/64 GB variant will be listed for Rs 10,999 at launch.
The device will come with a few launch offers, which include a free ultra-slim cover and a 5 per cent discount on online purchase using SBI credit/debit cards. If you have a Reliance Jio connection, you will be eligible for an instant Rs 2,200 cashback and 100GB additional data on relevant recharges. Buyers will also get 90 per cent discount (up to Rs 400) on their first Kindle e-book purchase.
Flash sale dates:
As with most Xiaomi products, the Redmi 5 will be available in limited quantities in batches. Xiaomi has already announced that the first flash sale will be held on March 20 at 12pm IST on Amazon.in and Mi.com. Considering Xiaomi traditionally holds a flash sale every week after the launch of a new device, expect the second flash sale around March 27. The smartphone will be available with offline retail partners after a couple of weeks.

Specifications and features:
The Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ (720x1440) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC clocked at 1.8Ghz and an Adreno 506 GPU. It comes in 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM variants and 16GB/32GB/64GB storage options. The 3,300 mAh battery fitted in the Redmi 5 claims up to 12 days of standby time.
On the camera front, the smartphone houses a 5MP front camera with Beautify 3.0 and Soft-Toned selfie light for better selfies and a 12MP rear camera with an aperture of f/2.2, PDAF and LED Flash. There's also a fingerprint sensor mounted on the back.
The Redmi 5 supports dual-SIMs(Nano), expandable storage via MicroSD card, and runs Xiaomi's MIUI 9 ROM based on Android 7.1. The smartphone is available in Black, Gold, Lake Blue and Rose Gold colour variants.
