The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is finally here. The Chinese smartphone giant officially launched its first flagship device of 2018 at an event in Shanghai China. The device will go up for pre-order in China starting April 3 and will have different variants selling at different price points. The Mi Mix 2S is priced at 3299 yuan (Rs 34,500 approx) for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage option, 3599 yuan (Rs 37,500 approx) for the 6GB RAM /128GB storage variant and 3999 yuan (Rs 42,000 approx) for the higher 8GB RAM/ 256GB storage option. The smartphone is expected to be priced similarly in India too but the launch date and sale details are yet to be announced. The 2S will officially go on sale from April 13.

The Mix 2S packs a 5.99-inch full HD+ (2160×1080) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and retains the traditional design elements of the Mix series. However, the smartphone will come with thinner bezels and have a much bigger screen to body ratio than its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.

The 2S will pack the state-of-the-art Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor working in tandem with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and the powerful Adreno 630 GPU. As mentioned above, the device will come in 64GB/128GB and a 256GB storage options.

The USP of the device will be its AI-powered camera setup. There's a 12MP+12MP dual camera setup on the back capable of dual-pixel autofocus feature, which dramatically improves low-light performance. The camera also features phase-detection autofocus and four-axis OIS (optical image stabilization) for better results. The Mix 2S scored an impressive 97 in overall camera scores on DxOMark and 101 in still photography. Interestingly, the Mi 2S's still photography score is the same as the Apple iPhone X and higher than the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. However, the recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ is rated slightly higher but also retails for a higher price. The AI features installed for the camera help in fine-tuning bokeh, background blur and other aspects. The camera software also allows text and scene recognition for instant translations and currency conversions useful while checking restaurants menus.

The phone also has a 5MP front camera with HDR mode and Face Unlock feature. There's also a back-mounted fingerprint sensor on the device. The Mix 2S sports a 3400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging and Qi wireless charging capabilities. Xiaomi is selling the Mi Qi wireless charger for 99 yuan (Rs 1,100 approx) but will come bundled with the 8GB/256GB variant. The device will ship with an Android 8.0-based MIUI 9.5 OS and will be available in Black and White colour options.
