Xiaomi has started teasing the launch of a new smartphone in India on June 7. The Chinese tech giant is yet to divulge any details about the device but is marketing it as the smartphone 'with best selfie camera'.

The promotional tagline is somewhat similar to the 'best Redmi selfie phone' phrase Xiaomi used for the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi S2 last week in China, prompting several media outlets to speculate that the company will most likely unveil the Redmi S2 in India.

But it seems like Xiaomi will be rebranding the device in India as the Redmi Y2. To recall, the Y1 was launched in India last November and boasted selfie-centric features at an affordable price — the same ammo as the S2. The teaser image posted by the official Xiaomi India Twitter handle uses the #RelYou hashtag with the Y highlighted.

Xiaomi Redmi S2 Specifications:

Xiaomi launched the Redmi S2 Android smartphone at an event in China on May 10, marking the beginning of a new mid-range Redmi S line-up with a focus on selfie cameras. The S2 sports a 16MP front selfie camera with AI Beauty and Portrait mode. Xiaomi claims it's the best selfie camera in the entire Redmi series.

The Redmi S2 will come with a 5.99-inch HD+ screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The Android device will be powered by a 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and will be available in two RAM/Storage variants — 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. A 2GB variant may be launched later. The storage is expandable via a MicroSD card slot.

On the camera front, the device will pack a 12MP+5MP dual rear cameras on the back. The USP of the device comes in form of the 16MP front snapper with AI modes.

The S2 will ship with an Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9 ROM and a substantial 3080mAh battery.

Xiaomi Redmi S2 Price:

As far as the price goes, the 3GB/32GB variant will cost CNY 999 (Rs 10,500 approx), while the 4GB/64GB variant will retail for CNY 1299 (Rs 14,000 approx). The device will be available in an array of options like Black, Rose Gold, Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Grey and Silver.
