Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, on Thursday, strengthened its audio gear portfolio in India by launching the Xiaomi Mi Pocket Speaker 2 portable Bluetooth speaker in India. The device is available for sale on the company's official website priced at Rs 1,499.
Xiaomi already has a Bluetooth speaker available for the Indian market in the Mi Bluetooth Speaker Basic 2, but the latest offering will be smaller, making it more portable and, of course, cheaper. The Mi Pocket Speaker 2 measures just 9.3 x 6 x 6cm in dimensions, making it very compact and lightweight. The Mi Pocket Speaker 2 was announced on the occasion of World Music Day celebrated on June 21. The device will be available in two colour variants — white and black.
The speakers have a maximum output rating of 5W, which may mean it is more powerful than Bluetooth speakers priced similarly. Xiaomi has partnered with German audio manufacturer Tymphany to manufacture the speaker drivers.
The device supports Bluetooth 4.1 and has a range of up to 10 metres. The USP of the device is its 1200mAh Li-Polymer, which Xiaomi claims can offer up to seven hours of uninterrupted music. The battery takes three hours to fully charge.
The body of the Mi Speaker 2 is built from sturdy polycarbonate and ABS material with an aluminium top, which doubles as the volume ring and can also be used to receive and disconnect calls when connected to a smartphone. The LED indicator is housed at the bottom.
