Xiaomi-backed gaming company Black Shark launched its first gaming smartphone at an event held in Beijing, China, today. The smartphone packs flagship-level hardware, a sporty look and the ability to connect Shark GamePad controllers via Bluetooth to give a hard-core gaming experience.

The Black Shark gaming smartphone packs a 5.99-inch InCell display with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 and 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone also supports DCI-P3 colour gamut and MEMC intelligent motion compensation technology to ensure vibrant colour reproduction and smoother video quality while playing games.

The device is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and comes in 6GB RAM/64GB storage and 8GB RAM/128GB storage variants. The device houses a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging support through Quick Charge 3.0.

The gaming smartphone has been given a sleek sports-car-like look at the back to go with the gaming theme and is highlighted by a green and black S symbol. Being a gaming smartphone, the Black Shark features a multi-layered cooling system that includes high thermal conductivity copper alloy substrate, nano-composite graphite, heat pipe and liquid cooling which can bring down the operating temperature considerably resulting in smoother performance.

The handset runs on JOY UI, a customised gaming-focused Android Oreo ROM which borrows some core features from Xiaomi's MIUI ROM. The device packs a 12MP+20MP dual-camera setup on the back and a 20MP front selfie camera powered by an independent image  Pixelworks processor. The cameras feature all the latest bells and whistles like PDAF, HDR, Panorama, Beaty mode, etc. The device has a dedicated Shark Key to access a dedicated gaming mode. The fingerprint scanner and home button at the bottom of the screen can also be turned off during gaming.

The Black Shark comes with an optional add-on gamepad called the Shark GamePad that docks on the top of the phone to transform the smartphone into a full-fledged handheld gaming device. The Gamepad comes with its own 340mAh battery and can last 30 hours without charge.

The 6 GB RAM/64 GB storage variant of the Black Shark gaming smartphone has been priced around 2,999 Yuan (Rs 32,000 approx) while the 8 GB RAM/128 GB storage option will sell for 3,499 Yuan (Rs 37,000 approx). The Shark GamePad is optional and can be bought for 179 Yuan (Rs 2000 approx).
