Samsung is reportedly planning to launch as many as three Samsung Galaxy S10 variants in 2019, with the premium variant sporting a triple-lens camera, following in the footsteps of the Huawei P20 Pro. A separate report also claims that two variants will have fingerprint sensors embedded under the display, while the third will have a side-mounted one.
According to German tech website AllAboutSamsung, the South Korean tech giant will bring out three Galaxy S-series variants next year, codenamed Beyond 0, Beyond 1 and Beyond 2 for now. While Beyond 1 and Beyond 2 will be the direct successors to this year's Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ respectively, the Beyond 0 is expected to be a cut-down budget variant of the flagship.
The report claims the premium Beyond 2 variant will also come with a triple camera setup on the rear. The website also specifies the lens configuration it will pack. The information furnished in the article speculates that the device will have a 12MP primary lens in the middle with variable apertures ranging from f/1.5 to f/2.4. It will be flanked by a 16MP super-wide-angle lens (123 degrees) with f/1.9 aperture to the right and a 13MP zoom lens with f/2.4 aperture to the left. The wide-angle lens will reportedly not come with autofocus (AF) or optical image stabilisation (OIS).
As for the Beyond 0 and Beyond 1 variants, AllAboutSamsung notes that both will feature a dual-camera setup on the rear comprising a 12MP primary lens with variable aperture, ranging from f/1.5 to f/2.4, and a 16MP super-wide-angle lens with f/1.9 aperture.
A separate article by South Korean publication Bell says that the Beyond 1 and Beyond 2 models will feature under display fingerprint scanners. But for the base variant, Beyond 0, the sensor will be mounted on the side of the device instead of the back of the phone.
Samsung's decision to add an extra variant to the yearly Galaxy S release is in line with the current trend followed by most big smartphone makers. Apple released three iPhones last year, and will most likely do the same with its next batch. Huawei, too, released three variants of its P20 flagship, namely P20 Pro, P20 and the P20 Lite.
