Samsung, on Monday, launched the Galaxy S Light Luxury Android smartphone in China. The device is a cut-down or lite variant of the company's 2017 flagship, Samsung Galaxy S8, and virtually has the same design.

The Galaxy S Light Luxury has been priced at 3999 yuan (Rs 43,000) but will be available for an early bird promo offer of 3699 yuan (Rs 40,000), bundled with a free wireless charger.

Pre-orders for the device have already started, but shipping will only begin from June 1. But Samsung hasn't made any announcements about the availability of the device for global or Indian markets.

Specifications:

The device packs a 5.8-inch SuperAMOLED screen, with a resolution of 2220x1080 and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Like the S8, the screen has curved glass on both sides connected to a thin aluminum frame. But the S8 had support for a higher 2960x1440 resolution, which is missing from this one.

The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Soc as opposed to the Snapdragon 835 used in the S8. The Galaxy S Light comes in only one configuration with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There's support for an external microSD card to increase storage to up to 400GB.

The smartphone has a 16MP rear camera complete with OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) and an LED flash. The front selfie camera is an 8MP sensor and comes with AI Beauty mode.

Surprisingly, Samsung decided to retain the fingerprint sensor in the same position as the S8. The odd placement of the sensor just beside the rear camera drew widespread criticism from users and prompted the South Korean giant to rectify the design flaw in the Galaxy S9. The dedicated Bixby button makes a comeback in the S Light.

The smartphone has all the flagship-level bells and whistles like wireless charging, IP68 water and dust protection and an iris scanner. But, Samsung seems to have given the heart-rate sensor a miss in this one.

The dual-SIM (nano) S Light Luxury packs a 3,000mAh battery and will ship with an Android 8.0-based ROM along with Bixby assistant, Face Unlock and Samsung Pay features. The device will be available in two stunning colours — Burgundy Red and Mystery Night Black.
