Roland Garros e-series is the eSports counterpart of French Open organised by BNP Paribas in association with the French Tennis Federation. The event will mark the entry of tennis in the competitive gaming realm and the qualifiers for the landmark event are already underway. Eight countries — France, China, India, Brazil, Great Britain, Belgium, Italy and Spain — will be competing for the title at the grand finals in Paris on May 25.
The Indian qualifiers will be held at the Yes Minister - Bowling Bar and Kitchen in Delhi on May 5. Registrations have already started and the winner of the event will get a chance to represent India in Paris.
The tournament will be held on the demo version of Tennis World Tour, which will have a clay court version of Roland Garros. The game is officially going to release on May 22 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
"The French Tennis Federation is delighted to become involved in eSport alongside BNP Paribas, a loyal partner of the Roland Garros tournament. This initiative confirms the Parisian Grand Slam's desire to stay at the cutting-edge of technology and operate in this rapidly-growing sector. This tournament will enable us to bring together communities of players who are passionate about tennis and about gaming," says Stephane Morel, deputy managing director of the French Tennis Federation’s Strategy and Development Department, in an official statement.
