Anil Ambani-owned DTH service provider Reliance Big TV is offering 'effectively free' HD channels for a year and up to 500 free to air (FTA) channels for five years. To avail of the offer, subscribers will need to pre-book their HD HEVC set-top boxes by paying Rs 500 and then another Rs 1,500 on delivery. The price for the set-top box can be recovered if subscribers decide to continue with the service past the promotional free year.
Reliance Big TV has partnered with over 50,000 post offices across Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim, where buyers can book their set-top boxes for Rs 500. Bookings will start from June 20 and all installations will be completed by July 30. Users will need to pay Rs 250 as installation fee. Pre-bookings can also be done through the Reliance Big TV official website.
On paying the remaining Rs 1,500 as the cost for the set-top-box and the outdoor unit, users will get to enjoy a range of paid channels, including HD ones, absolutely free for one year. Up to 500 FTA channels will also be available absolutely free for another four years.

On completion of the first year, users can continue enjoying all the pay channels by paying a monthly subscription of Rs 300. If the user continues with the paid subscription for two more years, he/she will be eligible for the loyalty bonus of Rs 2,000 paid through recharge vouchers. The company said the offer is in line with the government's Digital India initiative.
Big TV's set-top-box comes with all the latest features such as USB and HDMI ports, scheduled recording, simultaneous recording and watching channels, etc. It also comes with a one-year warranty.
