Asus Zenfone 5Z sale began in India today, barely a week after the budget flagship was unveiled. Asus's offering, on paper, will go toe-to-toe with heavy hitters in the segment which includes the OnePlus 6 and the Honor 10.
The base variant of the 5Z with 6GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage has been priced at Rs 29,999, while the 6GB/128GB and the 8GB/256GB variants are being listed for Rs 32,999 and Rs 36,999 respectively. The device is being sold exclusively on e-commerce site Flipkart. Buyers using ICICI credit or debit cards will get Rs 3,000 off as part of the launch offer.
Asus has also promised extensive after-sales service for the device, including bill free service, free pickup and drop from home and even device swap at service centres.
Asus Zenfone 5Z specifications
The 5Z packs a 5.2-inch FullHD+ (1080x2246) Super IPS+ LCD screen with 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The device is powered by the flagship-grade Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC — the same processor found in the OnePlus 6. As mentioned above, the 5Z is available with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of inbuilt storage. It has a microSD card slot to expand storage.
The 5Z has a 12MP+8MP dual camera setup on the back and an 8MP selfie camera on the front. It comes with an Artificial Intelligence Engine (AIE) to enable AI-powered camera features, as well as the Face Unlock feature. The device also has a fingerprint sensor in the back
The phone also has a significant focus on the audio department and boasts features such as dual 5-magnet speakers with dual NXP smart amplifiers, triple internal microphones with noise reduction, Hi-Res Audio (192KHz/ 24-bit) and DTS Headphone: X support.
The 5Z runs Asus's own ZenUI 5.0 ROM based on Android 8.0 Oreo and packs a 3,300mAh battery. The device is available in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver colour variants.
