HMD Global, the company behind Nokia, delighted fans with the announcement of an array of Nokia devices during the Moblie World Congress (MWC) 2018, including the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 8110 4G and Nokia 1. However, the Finnish company didn't quite release any info on a Nokia Android flagship for the year. The Nokia 8 Sirocco is the highest specced smartphone of the announced line-up but doesn't quite fit the mould of a 2018 flagship capable of competing with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S9 or the Sony Xperia XZ2 announced at the MWC this year. It is believed that HMD Global is working on the Nokia 9 in order to compete with the big boys this year.
There have been no concrete announcements on the Nokia 9 thus far, but we already have had an array of leaks and reports surrounding the device, which may very well get the Nokia faithful excited. Here's a summarisation of what we know about the impending flagship so far.
According to reports, the Nokia 9 will sport a 5.7in Quad-HD+ POLED screen, a Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 8GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.
On the camera front, the device has been tipped to come with a 22MP dual-camera setup with Zeiss lens. There have also been rumours of an innovative penta-camera setup but it's still just speculation as of now.
According to latest reports, the Nokia 9 will incorporate an under-the-screen fingerprint sensor and a notch at the top of the display- a design made popular by the Apple iPhone X.
Release date and sale:
According to a recent report by Nokiapoweruser, HMD Global may be planning to launch the Nokia 9 at the IFA 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Berlin around August or September and will be made available for sale towards the end of 2018.
With very little to go on, its hard to accurately speculate about the possible pricing but it'll certainly be launched at a higher premium than the Nokia 8 Sirocco, which was launched at a global average price of 749 euros (Rs 59,000). However, do note that HMD Global is prone to pricing Nokia handsets lower in the Indian market, where the Sirocco has been rumoured to be available for around Rs 49,000 in the country by Techadvisor. So, expect the Nokia 9 to be priced on par or a rung below the Samsung Galaxy S9 MRP during time of launch.
