ASUS ZenFone 5 series launch event at Barcelona Image: Twitter
ASUS launched its Zenfone 5 line-up at the MWC 2018 on Tuesday. There are three smartphones in the series, namely the ASUS ZenFone 5, the ASUS ZenFone 5 Lite and the ASUS ZenFone 5Z. The ZenFone 5 Lite will be the first to arrive in March, the ZenFone 5 will debut in April and the ZenFone 5Z will go on sale in June.
ASUS announced that the ASUS ZenFone 5Z will be priced at 479 euros (Rs 38,500 approx) for the base variant. However, prices of the other two models are yet to be revealed.
ASUS ZenFone 5Z
The 5Z variant is the flagship model from ASUS and comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Soc with AIE (Artificial Intelligence Engine) and the Adreno 630 GPU. The smartphone packs a bezelless 6.2-inch full-HD+ (1080x2246 resolution) display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and supports DCI-P3 colour gamut and ASUS's Blue-light eye care filter. The device comes in three RAM/Storage variants — 4GB/ 64GB, 6GB/ 128GB and 8GB/ 256GB. The internal storage is expandable up to 2TB via microSD card. The device's design is similar to the Apple iPhone X, including the top notch. There's a 3,300mAh battery with AI Charging tech support to power the device.
The device also boasts high-end audio capabilities and comes with dual 5-magnet speakers with dual smart amplifiers, a PMIC internal dual amplifier, triple internal microphones with noise reduction, Hi-Res Audio (192KHz/ 24-bit) audio output capability and support for HRA certified earbuds and DTS Headphone: X DSP.
On the camera front, there's a vertically aligned 12MP+8MP dual-camera setup on the back along with a Softlight LED flash. The front camera has an 8MP sensor. All three lenses have 3-axis EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) support. The device also has features like Face Unlock, real-time beatification and Zenimoji — an animated emoji feature similar to Apple iPhone X's Animoji. The device is available in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver colour.
ASUS ZenFone 5
The ZenFone 5 is a cut-down variant of the 5Z with minor hardware changes. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC coupled with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and the Adreno 509 GPU. There's only a 64GB internal storage variant. Apart from these, its specifications are exactly the same as the 5Z.
ASUS ZenFone 5 Lite
The device sports a 6-inch full-HD+ (1080x2160) IPS display. There are two variants of the device in terms of the processor- one with Snapdragon 630 Soc and the other with Snapdragon 430. There are also two different RAM/Storage variants of the device- 3GB/ 32GB and 4GB/64GB.
The Lite variant will come with dual-cameras on both the front and the back. The rear set up has a 16MP+8MP sensor combination, while the front module comes with a 20MP and an 8MP sensor. The's a 3300mAh battery to power the device.
All three models of the Zenfone 5 series supports dual-SIM (Nano) and will run Android 8.0 Oreo with ASUS's ZenUI 5.0 skin out of the box. They will also have similar AI-driven features and a back-mounted fingerprint sensor.
