Jio is offering free voice calls, SMS and unlimited data along with access to Jio Apps just at Rs 153 per month Image: Reliance Jio
The pre-booking of Reliance Jio’s anticipated feature phone dubbed Jio Phone will start on August 24.
The 4G VoLTE feature phone is said to be a “Made in India” product, and comes with a plethora of utilities that are not very regular for a feature phone. And moreover, the device comes with an effective price of Rs 0—you have to pay Rs 1,500 at the time of purchasing the device, which will be refunded by the company at the end of three years. But you’ll get the money back only if you return the handset to the company.
Here’s what to expect from the new Jio Phone.
Unlike other entry-level feature devices, Jio Phone comes with a 2MP rear and a VGA front camera. The device packs a dual-core SPRD 9820A/QC8905 1.2GHz processor paired with 512MB and 4GB internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot. It has a single nano SIM slot that only accepts Jio SIM cards.
The Jio Phone packs an alphanumeric keypad, and a 2.4-inch QVGA display with a resolution of 320x240 pixels.
The device runs on KAI OS, which is a forked edition of Firefox OS, and hence quite similar to it. The OS is coupled with a voice assistant that understands both English and Hindi. The voice assistant will help you to place a call or send message to any particular contact, play media content and browse the Internet. The Jio Phone will come with all the important Jio apps pre-installed.
Reliance Jio has announced a few special plans for its phone users. The monthly plan will cost Rs 153, and will come with a validity period of 28 days. The plan will offer 500MB data every day along with free calls and 300 messages. Jio also has a weekly plan that costs Rs 54 and a two-day plan worth Rs 24. Both offer same data like the monthly plan, but for a shorter period.
