With gaming set to make its debut at this year's Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang starting in August, India's road to the landmark event began today with the qualifiers for League of Legends. Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) registrations are still open and the qualifications will start on May 29 from 11am. The online qualifiers are being organised by Esports Federation of India.
To recall, eSports will be an exhibition event at this year's Asian Games and is scheduled to become a full-fledged medal sport in the next edition. Earlier this month, the Olympic Council of Asia announced six eSports titles — League of Legends (LoL), Hearthstone, Starcraft II, Arena of Valor, Clash Royale and Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) — will be a part of the maiden eSports event at the Asian Games.
Till now, only LoL and PES qualifiers for India have been announced and it remains to be seen if the other games also get qualifiers in the country. The top team from LoL and the top two players from the PES qualifiers will go on to represent India at the South Asia regional qualifiers, scheduled to take place from June 10 to June 20.
The representatives will have to battle it out from players qualifying from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka for a spot in the main event at Palembang, Indonesia, to be held between August 18 and September 2.
