Huawei-owned brand Honor, on Wednesday, announced the Honor Play gaming smartphone which will incorporate the company's Turbo GPU technology for an enhanced gaming experience. The company claims that the technology increases the graphics processing proficiency of the phone's hardware by a whopping 60 per cent consuming 30 per cent less power, enabling it to outperform smartphones with similar configurations or even devices with higher specs.
Honor claims that the device beats flagships such as Apple iPhone X, Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s and a few others in terms of gaming performance, including frame rates and jitter reduction. The company has also promised that the GPU Turbo technology will be rolled out for other phones like the Honor 10, Honor View10, Honor 9 Lite and Honor 7X, via a software update in the future.
The device is technically not a flagship and sits just below the Honor 10 in the company's phone roster and is even priced lower. The Honor Play is also the first phone in the world which will support 4D gaming, which means that the device can detect a number of gaming scenes including shots, explosions and quakes.
The Honor Play also comes with 3D sound which will give gamers an accurate representation of exactly where the sound is coming from. The device will also come with a thin film on the screen to reduce glare and reduce stress on the eyes during long gaming sessions.
The Honor Play joins the ever-growing line of gaming smartphones, which now includes the Razer Phone, Xiaomi's Black Shark gaming phone, Nubia Red Devil and the recently-launched Asus ROG Phone.
