Activision has finally revealed the official release date of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The next iteration of the popular game franchise will hit the stores on October 12, 2018. There's an event scheduled for May 17 where the game will be showcased for the first time.

Black Ops 4, like its predecessors, will be developed by Treyarch. The first two Black Ops titles were based on the Cold War and the near future respectively. Black Ops 3, which launched back in 2015, had its plotline based in the year 2065 and incorporated various sci-fi elements like space warfare and other things in the gameplay.

Black Ops 4 is expected to bring the title back to a more current timeline and will have much more grounded gameplay elements compared to its immediate predecessor.

However, contrary to a previous report, chances of the game being released for the Nintendo Switch console looks unlikely. From the information available thus far, it seems like the game will be release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
