The front camera will be the Redmi S2's USP Image: Xiaomi
Xiaomi launched the Redmi S2 Android smartphone at an event in China on Thursday, marking the beginning of a new mid-range Redmi S line-up with a focus on selfie cameras. The S2 sports a 16MP front selfie camera with AI Beauty and Portrait mode. Xiaomi claims it's the best selfie camera in the entire Redmi series.
The Redmi S2 will come with a 5.99-inch HD+ screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The Android device will be powered by a 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and will be available in two RAM/Storage variants — 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. A 2GB variant may be launched later. The storage is expandable via a MicroSD card slot.
On the camera front, the device will pack a 12MP+5MP dual rear cameras on the back. The USP of the device comes in form of the 16MP front snapper with AI modes.
The S2 will ship with an Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9 ROM and a substantial 3080mAh battery.
As far as the price goes, the 3GB/32GB variant will cost CNY 999 (Rs 10,500 approx), while the 4GB/64GB variant will retail for CNY 1299 (Rs 14,000 approx). The device will be available in an array of options like Black, Rose Gold, Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Grey and Silver.
