Mobile gaming has come a long way since Tetris became the first ever game to feature on a phone in 1994. One iconic Snake and 24 years on, mobile games are as popular as ever and is only growing exponentially.

According to research from Newzoo, the global smartphone gaming market will surpass that of the consoles this year, making up 32 per cent of the $108.9 billion industry. Mobile games have carved out a niche of its own but even popular games in other platforms are increasingly being adapted for the mobile. Games like PUBG, Hearthstone are prime examples. Even Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe launched a mobile game on himself to woo young voters.

With the ever-increasing popularity, the number of games being released every year has shot up manifold and the sheer amount of options can become overwhelming. To help you out, T2 Online looks at some of the best mobile games available on the Android platform.

Alto's Adventure

It is a snowboarding game with stunning visuals and amazing graphics. The game has received a lot of rave reviews and is one the top games ever to be released on Android. The controls are easy to grasp and the gameplay in increasing. It's only 63 MB in size and runs smoothly on most smartphones.

Super Mario Run

Mario has ruled the video gaming world since 1985 and it was only a matter of time before the world's favourite Italian plumber started making his mark on smartphones. Super Mario Run is enthralling and uses the classic Mario game features of the past, but with new updated graphics. More than 100,000,000 downloads on Android shows how popular it is.

Asphalt 8: Airborne

Asphalt has been the top racing game on mobile platform for years, ever since its release in November 2004 and all the sequels have built up the franchisee's reputation over the years. Asphalt 8 is no different and boasts cutting-edge graphics and engaging gameplay.

Injustice 2

The game is already a massive hit on consoles and PC. The mobile version too is a blast to play. Pick your favourite DC superheroes or villain from an exhaustive roster and duke it out in a classic arcade style fighting game. From Batman, Superman, Flash to Wonder Woman - the game more or less has every character you may want to see in a game. It is already a hit with over 5 million downloads on the Play Store.

Modern Combat Versus

If you like team-based FPS games, this one is a must. The game is based on classic 4 vs 4 FPS game formats. You play as an agent and have to help your team to glory by guarding an objective in beautifully designed detailed maps. The best part is that the game is playable online and it's very much a part of the competitive eSports arena. In fact, a Modern Combat World Championships is scheduled to take place in Paris on April 7, with teams from around the world competing for the honours.

The famous Hasbro family board game is now digital. The murder mystery game is a perfect mobile game to keep you engaged for hours at a stretch. If you like detective games solving mystery then this one is for you.

Crash of Cars

It is a real-time Multiplayer game where you crash your car with other cars to destroy other players' cars and steal their crowns to climb the leaderboard. There are 8 Maps, 70+ cars to choose from and 16 upgradeable power-ups, like flamethrowers, cannons and more.
