In his entire career, Spain’s Feliciano Lopez hasn’t won a single match against Roger Federer. And he has an apt explanation for it.
The Spaniard, who can be regarded as Federer’s contemporary, has admitted that beating the Swiss legend is nearly impossible. So much so, he says that one feels helpless against the current world No. 1.
“You feel helpless against him, he does things that nobody is able to, especially the way he improvises. Then there are (Rafael) Nadal and (Novak) Djokovic,” Lopez said in a recent interview.

Lopez also added how Federer has served as an inspiration to him throughout his career. “I grew up with Roger because we are of the same generation, we met each other as kids. Rafa and he have completely different games, but it's clear that Roger is the best player in history and there is no doubt about it. He is the most complicated rival with whom I have played. He is the one that impressed me the most on-court,” he said.
Federer has been missing in action for some time now due to a lingering back injury but recently announced that he will be back for the upcoming Stuttgart Open due to start on June 11. And Lopez recently bowed out of the Italian Open after losing to Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the first round.
