Everyone wants Lionel Messi to win the 2018 World Cup for Argentina, but the Barcelona legend prefers being realistic ahead of the major tournament starting June 14.

In a recent interview to Barcablaugranes, Messi admitted that the current Argentina squad is certainly not the best in the world. “We have time to work and we need it. We have to go in there with calmness and send out a message that we will be the best in the world because that is not the case. We are not the best in the world, let’s be realistic, and with that humility, we have to go look for that dream,” he was quoted as saying.

Messi thinks some of the squads are better than La Albiceleste. "Quite a few squads are better. But we have players with talent and experience. We cannot send the message that we are the best, because that's not true,” he said.

Argentina, who won the World Cup tournament in 1978 and 1986, will play their first game of the 2018 tournament against Iceland on June 16.

They are part of Group D, which also includes Croatia, Iceland and Nigeria.
