A television crew member was hit by a Md Shami delivery at the nets at Eden Gardens on Tuesday, making Indian captain Virat Kohli take a break and check on his well-being.
Kohli, who is reknowned for his aggression and tenacity, was facing Shami at the nets when he missed the delivery that went through and hit the crew member on his forehead.
The pair rushed towards the stricken official whom Indian team physio Patrick Farhart attended to later.
Such was his concern that Kohli resumed batting at the nets only when he was assured that the injured person was being properly attended to.
Earlier in the session, Kohli did a little experimentation after chopping off a part of his bat's handle to play with a shorter bat.
The skipper will hope for a good showing with the bat against the Lankans in the longest format of the game after a run of small scores. In his last six Test outings, Kohli has scored a total of 76 runs, with 42 being his highest in a single innings. His last big knock came against Bangladesh in February when he struck a double-ton.
India play Sri Lanka in the first Test match at the Eden Gardens from November 16. Rain could play spoilsport with forecasts suggesting wet skies for the first three days of the rubber.
