Kohli shared a message for #PatriotDogs Image: AFP
Virat Kohli wears his heart on his sleeve both on and off the field and the Indian captain is particularly sensitive when it comes to pets. Like his predecessor MS Dhoni, Virat is an avid pet lover and we have time and again seen him as a doting pal to his adorable pet beagle Bruno. In a recent tweet, the Delhi batsman stood up for the cause of service dogs and urged people to give the canine heroes a life they deserve.
Virat posted a picture of himself and Bruno with a message which read, " Help @VOSD1 bring home 100 #PatriotDogs! They spend their lives serving us, it's time to do something for them."
Who are #PatriotDogs:
Service dogs or #PatriotDogs live their lives serving the nation and are used by the military, paramilitary and the police. The dogs are trained to assist in various missions ranging from rescue, uncovering explosives to hunting down insurgents. The dogs are retired after 8-10 years of service, but it becomes hard to find people willing to adopt these aged dogs, despite their selfless service to the nation.
How Virat wants you to help:
Initially, the dogs were euthanised but the practice has been banned recently. However, owing to security reasons and their old age, finding willing owners who can give these heroes a loving home is very difficult. An NGO named The Voice of Stray Dogs run by Bengaluru resident Rajiv Shukla is on a drive to give 100 of these retired patriot dogs a home they can cherish and is looking to raise funds to build facilities and medical services for them. Virat's message urges everyone to come forth and help out with the noble cause.
Surely our pawed friends who kept us safe deserve that much.
