This Indian Premier League anecdote has nothing to do with poor on-field performance, match-fixing or that random physical assault on a top-class player. But still, this manages to be the most controversial incident in the history of IPL because it involves Shah Rukh Khan.

Back in 2012, the Maharashtra Cricket Association had banned SRK from entering the Wankhede Stadium for five years. Reason: He had allegedly misbehaved with officials of the cricket association and is believed to have hurled expletives at an MCA-employed security personnel at the stadium.

This happened on May 16, when Kolkata Knight Riders played Mumbai Indians. KKR had won the match by a convincing margin, and SRK had plans to celebrate with players on the field. But as a security personnel stopped him from entering an area usually reserved for players, SRK ended up losing his cool.

The decision to deny SRK entry into the stadium was taken by the MCA's managing committee in an emergency sitting chaired by then MCA president Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Deshmukh was quoted as saying, "The managing committee of the MCA at its meeting today has condemned the behaviour of Shah Rukh Khan, who without any provocation hurled abuses at MCA officials and manhandled the security guard in the presence of BCCI-IPL officials. Shah Rukh had no regrets for his action and misbehaviour. He, in fact, has justified his action of manhandling the security guard and abusing and threatening MCA officials. The managing committee is forced to ban Shah Rukh Khan from entering the Wankhede Stadium for a period of five years."

This ban was, however, revoked in 2015 by then MCA president Sharad Pawar. In a statement, vice-president Ashish Shelar had said, "Today, in the MCA meeting, it was decided that the ban imposed on IPL’s Kolkata franchise owner Shah Rukh Khan should be lifted. With the prior approval of our president Sharad Pawar, it was proposed by me that the ban on him be lifted and the managing committee approved it unanimously. Therefore, the ban on his entry in the Wankhede Stadium has been revoked."
