We don’t need superheroes such as Spider-Man, Batman or Captain America because we have AB de Villiers.

In yesterday’s match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore, the Protean was in superhuman mode.

While SRH were busy chasing a 219-run target set by RCB, ABD pulled off the unthinkable. After Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Shikhar Dhawan, it was becoming increasingly important to send Alex Hales – who was taking the bowling attack to the cleaners – back to the pavilion.

As Hales tried to smash one over the leg side boundary, ABD took a catch that cannot be summed up in words. But Kohli has an apt description for him. Tweeting a photograph of the high-flying ABD, he called him 'SpiderMan'.

He also heaped praise on ABD in the post-match interview, saying, “That was Spider-Man stuff. You don’t do that as normal human beings. I thought it was going for a six but he pulled it off. He can do freakish things but I am used to it now. His fielding I am pretty used to now. Need to thank the crowd as it is our last home game.”

Tweeple obviously couldn’t hold themselves back from showering love on the South African, who contributed with 69 runs off 39 deliveries to the RCB total.
