While Sachin Tendulkar transcended beyond the boundaries of a mere mortal and elevated himself to the pedestal of the 'God of Cricket', his millions of devotees found an apt invocation for their beloved deity in the 'Sachin, Sachin' chant.
Time and again, the holy verses have reverberated across the world whenever India needed a saviour on the cricket field, and more often than none, the little master delivered. But, as with any prayer, the origin of the 'Sachin, Sachin' chant was a mystery- till now.
The master blaster himself revealed the first time he heard the hallowed words and its more down-to-earth than you expect.
Sachin was speaking at a promotional event for his upcoming biographical documentary Sachin: A Billion Dreams when he revealed that it was his mother, Rajni Tendulkar, who was responsible for the 'Sachin, Sachin' chant becoming an integral part of his life and it was a long time before he made his debut for India.
“My mother started it actually. I used to go play downstairs and to call me back home, mother would call ‘Sachin Sachin’,” said Tendulkar said when asked about the first time he heard the chant.
The chant became synonymous to the hopes and aspirations of millions of Indian cricket fans during the course of Sachin's career and even the master admitted during his farewell speech that the chants will continue to ring in his ears for the rest of his life.
