MS Dhoni says Akhtar was unpredictable Image: AFP
MS Dhoni has been a nightmare for most bowlers for over a decade now, but seems like even Mahi has his own nemesis. Dhoni himself revealed the toughest bowler he has ever faced, and it's none other than Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar.
Mahi was speaking at a charity event organised by India captain Virat Kohli in London, and when quizzed about the most challenging bowler he has been up against, he said, “All the fast bowlers are quite difficult, with the limited technique I had, it was very difficult to face the fast bowlers. Still, if I had to pick one, I would pick Shoaib Akhtar.”
Mahi also explained exactly what made Akhtar so challenging. “He was quick, he was fast, he could bowl a yorker, he could bowl a bouncer, but you never expected a beamer. He was a bit unpredictable but was fun to play against,” Mahi said.
Dhoni is currently with the Indian squad playing the ICC Champions Trophy in England. The Men in Blue face a must-win game against South Africa on June 11 if they're to progress to the semi-finals of the tournament.
India are the defending champions and won the trophy back in 2013 under Dhoni's captaincy.
