The helicopter shot will land in Chennai again because it’s time for MS Dhoni to return to Chennai Super Kings.

At its meeting on Wednesday, the IPL governing council cleared the decks for MS Dhoni’s return to the Chennai-based franchise that suffered a two-year suspension over spot-fixing and betting allegations. The council has allowed CSK and Rajasthan Royals to retain players who were part of their 2015 roster. As far as Dhoni is concerned, he is the only person with world-class ability to captain the side.

BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chowdhury said: “An IPL franchise is eligible to secure up to 5 players. The player pool available for CSK and RR for retention will be the players who played for them, respectively in IPL 2015 and who were part of RPS and Gujarat Lions squads in IPL 2017.”

The council also hiked the salary budget of the franchises from Rs 66 crore to Rs 80 crore for next year’s auction, tentatively set for February.

Tweeple, as usual, couldn’t control their excitement...
