The saddest thing about Argentina’s FIFA 2018 World Cup campaign is that they’re no longer depending on themselves to make it to the round of 16.

After a draw against Iceland in the Cup opener and an embarrassing 0-3 drubbing against Iceland, Lionel Messi and Company are on the brink of a group-stage exit.

But there’s still hope. Thanks to Nigeria, who beat Iceland 2-0 in yesterday’s Group D clash.

So, here’s how La Albiceleste can make it to the next round.

• Messi and his boys HAVE to win their upcoming Group D clash against Nigeria on June 26.

• They will have to pray that Iceland don’t beat Croatia in the other Group D clash, which will also happen on June 26.

• If Iceland upset Croatia (which they are actually capable of), Argentina will need a better goal difference than Iceland.

The pressure is showing on Messi and the rest of the Argentine players, who are obviously dependent on him. In an interview with El Trece TV, Messi’s mother, Celia Cuccittini, revealed what the World Cup means to the Barcelona legend.

“His aim is to bring the Cup home, to win the World Cup. It’s one of his biggest desires. We see him suffer and cry at times. He is the first who wants to bring the Cup with him. He, more than anyone, would give everything for this to be his World Cup,” she said.

Now that you know about the mood in the Argentine camp, it’s time to keep your fingers firmly crossed.
