MS Dhoni is popularly referred to as Mahi or Mahi Bhai by his teammates.
But no one has ever addressed him as sir, and probably no one ever will. Because going by what wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has to say, Dhoni isn’t fond of such formal titles.
Chahal remembered how Dhoni reprimanded him when he addressed him as 'Mahi sir' on a tour to Zimbabwe.
“I received the ODI cap from MS Dhoni. He is a legend and the first time I met him I was not even able to talk in front of him. When I met him for the first time in Zimbabwe I used called him Mahi sir. After a while, he called me over and said, ‘Mahi, Dhoni, Mahendra Singh Dhoni or Bhai… Call me whatever you want but not sir,” Chahal was quoted as saying in a recent episode of Breakfast with Champions.
Chahal’s recent Indian Premier League (IPL) stint was nothing short of impressive. He was the leading wicket-taker for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), picking up 14 scalps in 12 outings.
And Dhoni won his third IPL title with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), after two back-to-back wins in 2010 and 2011.
