In tinsel town, you'd find most actors turning designers. They often position that career path as a natural progression. Not often, though, the reverse happens. So, we were pleasantly surprised to hear that two of India's ace designers are soon turning actors. Wendell Rodricks and Varun Bahl are all set to mark their acting debut with the film Shab.
Wendell, incidentally, has also styled actor Ashish Bisht for the Raveena Tandon and Sanjay Suri-starrer. Varun plays himself in the film. He is seen as part of a jury panel with Raveena judging models. Ashish plays a model and Wendell portrays an integral role who will be responsible for giving Ashish's character his first break. Taking inspiration must have come easy for the two designers, who've given breaks to countless fresh talents in the fashion industry.
Talking about roping in the designers for his film, director Onir said, "Varun and Wendell are very dear friends and were sporting enough to immediately agree to be themselves in the film. It was fun shooting with them. Wendell was so sure I will edit him out as he is very camera shy, but he is in the film as a mentor to the character of Ashish who he styled. Varun looks super sexy on screen."
If you're expecting yet another Fashion, don't. Cliches are not Onir's calling. Expect this to be a film on fashion of a different kind. And Wendell and Varun's presence will only add to the conception.
