After the Sonam Kapoor-Anand Ahuja wedding, Surya and Ishaan K Shaan's nuptials are hogging the limelight. They are not celebrities, but they are clearly more relevant. They are the first Indian transgenders to tie the knot in Kerala with the blessings of their parents.

Surya wore traditional red bridal wear and chura, while Ishaan looked happy in a grey suit. The wedding was conducted under the Special Marriages Act.

Surya came out of the closet in the early 2000s, a time when Kerala was still processing the issue of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) rights. She had braved great odds to emerge as a transgender activist and actor. Ishaan was born in a conservative household, and had to cross many hurdles to live freely as a trans man.

Ever since news of the wedding broke, all hell broke loose on social media with people deciding to play moral police.
