Sona's comic timing adds to the quirk of Jinal Patel Image: Fotocorp
Ever since Anushka Sharma and Kangana Ranaut made the Gujarati look cool in Jab Harry Met Sejal and Simran, respectively, Bollywood seems to have taken a liking for Gujju chic. And now, looks like Sonakshi Sinha is following suit.
Sona is playing a Gujarati woman in her upcoming multi-starrer, Welcome To New York. But not necessarily one with an accent. What she brings to the table is a unique sartorial style that clubs typical Gujarati silhouettes with international trends.
Sona's character Jinal Patel is an aspiring fashion designer, who is both quirky and weird. And to help design the look, Sona sought help from her college batchmate, Eka Lakhani.
Talking about how the distinctive style came about, Sonakshi told T2 Online, "Eka has understood the quirks of the character really well and applied it to Jinal's fashion. I was really happy with all the elements she put together to give Jinal Patel a very different, quirky and individual style, a style she can call her own."
Stylist Eka added, "Sonakshi’s look was supposed to be fun, quirky, yet it had to have a slightly off or slightly weird feel to it. Which is why we teamed kurtis with bindi and accessories."
Director Chakri Toleti, however, feels it was Sonakshi's impeccable comic timing that tied the look and the character together. "It was fun working with Sonakshi, and she took on the role like a fish to water. Moreover, with her comic timing, she was able to bring out the very best," he said.
Welcome To New York is set to release worldwide on February 23, this year.
