Shahid and Sonam are 2016's hottest vegetarians: Here's what they binge on

Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor have just been voted the hottest vegetarian celebs of 2016. We dig up their veggie diets that make them stay incredibly fit

A strictly vegetarian diet has just made Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor the hottest vegetarian celebs of the year. PETA India named them winners after a public vote. The two had some major competition from fellow vegetarians Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Kangana Ranaut, Vidyut Jammwal, R Madhavan and Sunny Leone.

Most of these stars would tell you that it ain't easy to survive on veggies alone while keeping fit at the same time. So what exactly do they binge on? Sure, they don't chomp on crackers and wafers during mid-work breaks like you and me.

Big on beans: Shahid Kapoor

Shahid, for instance, needs a diet with a high protein intake. Since he misses out on meat (psst: he used to be a major meat lover, btw), he ODs on plenty of beans, spinach, green vegetables and fruits. “What has happened now is that I've stopped taking milk and milk products. I am lacto-sensitive. A lot of people are lacto-sensitive but they don't realise it. I love chicks, pigs, cows, fish, and all other animals. That's why I turned vegetarian," says the actor.

So, you won't find tinned cold cuts on his plate. He gorges on fat-free and carb-free foods in small 5-6 meal portions through the day. Kidney beans, coleslaw, soy chili beans, baby beetroot are a staple for Shahid. True to his Punjabi-boy self, the actor can never have enough of rajma chawal.

Being nuts about nuts: Sonam Kapoor

For a self-confessed foodie like Sonam Kapoor, it's a tight fight. She loves chocolates but she's smart enough to stoke indulgences in moderation. Her brekkie bowl is always refilled with oatmeal, fruits and Greek yoghurt. For meals, Sonam relies on humble bajra rotis, salad and dal. But for those peckish sessions, she reaches out for nuts and dry fruits. Oh, and she stocks up apples and health bars for work breaks.

Well, there goes your regretful craving, deflated like your empty bag of chips.
