Padma Lakshmi shows a genius ramp move at Tarun Tahiliani's show Image: Viral Bhayani
There are models, there are supermodels and then there's Padma Lakshmi. What does she do differently that makes her ace the catwalk every single time? Well, we've figured it out. It's all in her experienced strut. While you see regular models walking the ramp as instructed, with minimal sway and a blank face, Lakshmi owns the ramp as she sashays in, confidence and attitude in place. And then, she makes her genius move when she reaches the end of the ramp. She twirls like no other model usually would. Twice.
See it to believe us:
With her poise and easy grace, the supermodel rightly stole the show walking for her dear friend and designer Tarun Tahiliani. Interestingly, she opened and closed the show for him in two different outfits. Dressed in an ethereal white, heavily-embellished lehenga, textured choli and sheer dupatta, Lakshmi walked in to showcase the designer's newest collection.
She ended the sensational collection in a peach-panelled, brocade lehenga and pink silk shirt to massive cheer from the audience. With her walk, she gave LFW an iconic ramp moment. She's appreciative of the pap culture in India. “Here, I have been able to move freely. People are very respectful, they ask if they can take a picture most of the time...in New York, it is pretty unbearable,” stated Hollywood’s favourite supermodel.
Given her experience, it's no surprise that she could teach upcoming models a thing or two about that perfect ramp walk. Lakshmi was the first Indian model to have a career in Paris, Milan and New York. Now, she shuttles between India and New York. She has modelled for top designers, including Giorgio Armani, Gianni Versace, Ralph Lauren, Alberta Ferretti and Emanuel Ungaro, and has also appeared in several ad campaigns for Roberto Cavalli.
