2017 was quite an eventful year for Katy Perry. It all started with the release of her fifth album, Witness, followed by a brief appearance in the Ben Stiller-starrer Zoolander 2 and the whopping deal as a judge on American Idol. But the pop star has revealed that in between all the big happenings, she had bouts of situational depression.

The Roar hitmaker, in an interview to a leading magazine, said her heart was completely broken after her album's failure as she was deeply affected by public opinion.

"I have had bouts of situational depression and my heart was broken last year because, unknowingly, I put so much validity in the reaction of the public, and the public didn’t react in the way I had expected to … which broke my heart," she said.

However, fans found her revelation way too much and reminded her how she had tried to bring her contemporary, Britney Spears, down when she spoke about her mental illness.

In a series of tweets, fans reminded Perry of the joke she cracked on the red carpet at last year's Grammy.
