With as many as 16 long weekends in store this year, we know you are already excited and making your travel plans. But instead of hitting the usual vacay hot spots this year, what if we told you about the 'it' destinations of 2018?

The new year has brought in new travel destinations for those bitten by the wanderlust. According to global travel app Skyscanner, some exciting global locations are emerging as the new go-to holiday destinations. The app witnessed an average increase of over 80% on searches from Indian travellers for these locations since 2016. Each destination is a mélange of the new and the old — picturesque hubs with a touch of history and culture — marking these as travel goals for 2018.

While the most popular travel destinations for 2017 were Dubai, Bangkok, Bali, Singapore and London, the top five travel spots for 2018 are predicted as follows:

5. Koh Samui

In 2017, the Republic Day weekend was the most popular long weekend for a quick trip. With data indicating the last week of January to be the most searched long weekend, Indian travellers appear to want to start the new year with a holiday. We get the feels. The phenomenon might get repeated this year, too, as Republic Day falls on a Friday. Fri-yay, we say.
