Not that you needed a reason to bite into a slice of cool watermelon, the fruit is probably the only thing that can get you through the raging summer. From helping you fight against anxiety and colon cancer to wrinkles and pimples, this summer fruit is just what the doctor ordered. Literally.

"Water Melon is rich source of antioxidants like lycopene, vitamin A and C. It helps in preventing signs of ageing as it help reducing free radicals in the body. It is rich in vitamin A, consists of water, and is rich in fiber content too. It also relieves from fatigue, stress, anxiety," says Dr Amit Bhasin, dermatologist, MD Prive Clinic. So, here are his tips to get more out of this fruit in your diet and beauty regimen:

Chug, chug, chug

"Drinking watermelon juice is all you need to do for your skin or health problems. It makes your body stay fit and healthy. It is believed that a glass of watermelon a day will save you from diseases like asthma, colon cancer and more," says Dr Bhasin. If your skin is feeling dull, it would do you good to drink this juice too. With its high water content, watermelon is a good option for keeping the skin hydrated and improving your collagen production that is necessary for youthful skin.

Sunburn be gone

Did you know that watermelons can cure your inflammed face after being out in the sun? Well, all you need is to mix watermelon and cucumber pulp in equal proportion. Apply it on your face and leave it for 20 minutes. This will not only help heal the sunburns but also lighten your complexion.

Zit zapper

Summer acne can easily be rid off by applying watermelon juice on your face with a cotton ball. Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse off for clearer skin. Dr Bhasin says, "You can also use watermelon seed to cure acne. Just grind and dilute it in boiling water. Massage it on affected area and leave it for 3 minutes. After rinsing it off, apply a layer of egg white on your face and wash off after 10 minutes. This is a perfect remedy for acne, acne scars and oily skin."
