Gautam Gambhir isn't too happy with the current state of the environment, are you? Image: AFP
In India, a lot of cricketers don't speak up about problematic current affairs in order to avoid controversies but cricketer Gautam Gambhir has no qualms about using his right to expression. And we quite like him for being honest instead of being diplomatic.
Not only is Gautam vocal about things that matter, but he also believes in giving back to society through his foundation — Gautam Gambhir Foundation (GGF). He supports causes such as funding the educational expenses of martyrs' children, keeping the city clean and the health of young adults.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Gauti took to Twitter and shared his opinion on the deplorable state of the environment. The former skipper wrote, "I think instead of #WorldEnvironmentDay let’s rename it as #WorldSurvivalDay. Maybe then we’ll realise we are on the brink of our carelessness & greed-infused disasters. Just look at water crisis in Shimla."
Gautam's sharp observation about the environment generated multiple reactions from his followers, and soon people were sharing stories of the natural crisis in their region.
Guess it takes one person to open up about the reality and everyone else follows. And we think it's high time Indian celebrities use their influence to talk about real issues on their social platforms. More power to you, Gauti.
