Cancel all your weekend plans, we have the perfect Sunday outing for you. The capital is all set to host the first Delhi Bike Pride on July 2, the historic date when Delhi High Court had repealed Section 377 of the Constitution, which criminalises homosexuality. This day is celebrated by the LGBTQ community of India as a day of victory and despite the reinstatement of Section 377 in 2013, we are reminded that equality is possible.
The ride has been organised by SCRUFF, a global dating, travelling and social networking app for men and a non-profit organisation for the minorities, Those In Need. The colourful ride kickstarts from South Extension Part 2 at 6.30 am and will culminate at Jantar Mantar. Pillion-riders, those sans a bike and even proud owners of scooties or cycles are welcome too. You can check out the dates on their Facebook event page to register.
Many organisations have come forward to join the Delhi Bike Pride to bring to light the harassment and exploitation that the LGBTQ community are subjected to as a result of the court ruling. So, hold up your rainbow flag high and get ready for spin across the city on a Sunday morning.
