In summers, when long power cuts are quite common, your balcony plays a vital role as this little outside space can be a place to take a break, chill and relax. And trust us, it doesn't take much to make it our own personal comfy spot. Parushni Aggarwal, founder and creative director at Studio Creo, doles out four budget-friendly ways to prep your balcony this summer.

Aggarwal feels whether it is conventional earthen pots or a wall with flowing creepers, a balcony wrapped in greens is always a delight for the heart and soul. And it doesn't take much to usher in some greens, does it?

 An abundance of local greens

The key to a pocket-friendly yet lush green garden are native plants, preferably perennials that are indigenous to the area where you live. These not only require minimal maintenance but also grow faster and healthier since they are already acclimatised with the weather. You can find these plants easily available across local nurseries.

Handy decor lights

One could swap the conventional lamps or foot lights with tiny but striking airy lights. The colour choices available are many and these are easy on the pocket, too. The flexible wire is an added advantage — easier to reach around nooks and corners to highlight the space you love lounging in.

Choose to reuse

Attractive cookie containers and glass bottles could be used in place of vases. One can also refer to interesting DIYs to transform fused bulbs into hanging pots of wonder in your balcony.

Small is smart

Think your balcony is too small? Worry not. Small is actually smart and comfy. You do not need to sacrifice a huge space for your balcony garden. Cutting it down to a minimum area will not only save you room for free movement but also your resources including water.
