The much anticipated Game of Thrones prequel is gaining momentum with each passing day, and the series can get an official confirmation any day now. GoT creator George RR Martin and the makers of the show have already discussed the possibilities a prequel has for a show like GoT.
Last November, Martin admitted to having written thousands of pages of materials, about the history of everything that has led to the events of Game of Thrones, and also claimed to be writing more. And now HBO's programming president Casey Bloys has agreed, that it would be stupid if a prequel isn't pursued. GoT will come to an end after two more seasons, and the prequel is just what the fandom needs, as the history of Westeros is very intriguing. The fans also agree that the the events which took place before the series commenced, need elaboration.
The history of the Mad King, (Daenerys's father), who was killed by Jaime Lannister is one of the subjects, most likely to be the centre of the prequel, according to the rumours. The relationship between the Mad King's son Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark (Jon Snow's parents) is also of massive interest to the fandom, and will definitely get screen time, when the prequel is made. The making of the House of Targaryen (what with the dragons and all) is one of the main pillars of Westeros' history.
The history of the White Walkers, and the childhood of the Lannister siblings, Jaime and Cersei, are two areas, which are strongly being considered to be featured in the prequel. As a family too, The Lannisters have been disturbingly dysfunctional. Besides, the incestuous bonds between Jaime and Cersei, Tywin Lannister's relationship with his children, especially Tyrion will make for a compelling watch.
Robert Baratheon's rebellion, which ended with the collapse of the House of Targaryen, and the ascension of Robert Baratheon to the Iron Throne is one of the major subjects to be dealt with in the GoT prequel. It is not yet known if the original cast would return for the prequel, but it can be predicted, owing to their immense popularity with the masses.
Game of Thrones returns this June with it's sixth season, and is set to wrap up after the eigth season. This season will show Daenerys Targaryen's first enounter with Jon Snow, and will also possibly see a rebellion, as the mother of Dragons makes her way to Westeros.
