Telly star Sanjeeda Sheikh is in for some legal trouble. The Love Ka Hai Intezar star and her brother Anas have been charged with a domestic violence case by Anas' wife Zakerabanu Zakir Hussain Bagban. Zakerabanu has alleged that Anas and his family members, including Sanjeeda, assaulted her on multiple occasions, and she even had to be hospitalised as a result.
"They often demanded money from my father and would beat me up. My husband is an alcoholic, a drug addict, and is also involved in match-fixing," Zakerabanu alleged to Mumbai Mirror. A domestic violence case under section 125 of CrPC has been filed against Sanjeeda and her family.
According to reports, 22-year-old Zakerabanu was assaulted by Anas, Sanjeeda, and their mother while they were on the phone with her father. Zakerabanu claims that was when she flew back to her home in Ahmedabad, and had to be hospitalised later on. She reportedly lodged an FIR at Ahmedabad's Sarkhej Police Station after she was discharged on May 29.
Sanjeeda and her family have filed a petition that the claims made by Zakerabanu are false. Their petition argues that Zakerabanu had an orthodox upbringing and could not adjust to the liberal lifestyle of her in-laws. "The Hon’ble Court has passed an order in favour of my client by stating that the investigating agency should not take any coercive steps against her. In other words, the Court accepted our submission that the FIR is baseless, bad in jurisdiction and merely filed to harass my client," Sanjeeda's lawyer was quoted as saying.
