Nicole Kidman is all set to return to the DC cinematic universe. The Oscar winner who played Dr Chase Meridian in the 1995 DC production Batman Forever, opposite Val Kilmer, is in talks to star as the superhero Aquaman's mother in the upcoming standalone film.
Game of Thrones star Jason Mamoa is set to play Aquaman aka Arthur Curry, the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, in the standalone film of the same name. The film is scheduled to release in October 2018, but Aquaman will make his big screen debut in the 2017 film Justice League, alongside Batman (Ben Affleck), Flash (Ezra Miller) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). Kidman is in negotiations with the makers to star as Aquaman's mother Atlanna, who hails from the kingdom of Atlantis.
According to the DC comic universe, Atlanna leaves the underwater kingdom and eventually falls in love with a lighthouse keeper, and has a son with him. The child grows up to be Aquaman, the king of Atlantis, who can not only breathe underwater, but also has superhuman strength and agility, and can telepathically communicate with sea life.
The 49-year-old Kidman recently received an Oscar nod this year for her role in the film Lion. Besides Mamoa, Aquaman features Amber Heard as the superhero's love interest Mera, and Patrick Wilson as Aquaman's evil half-brother Orm.
