Karanvir Bohra has many reasons to celebrate. In the next few days, the Kasautii Zindagii Kay famed actor will be seen as the lead in the second season of Ekta Kapoor's widely popular supernatural show Naagin. And he is soon to play the role of a father in real life. In an interesting twist of fate, Karanvir is now part of this show which apparently had been offered to him last season itself. He says, “There were lots of offers but destiny works in a weird way. I am glad to be a part of Naagin. I was supposed to do it last year, but something else came up.”

Replacing an actor is unfair

The role finally went to Arjun Bijlani, whose stint in this show actually resurrected his career. His sizzling chemistry with co-actor Mouni Roy became the talk of the town. Karanvir, however, seems unfazed by comparisons that are sure to happen once the show is on air. Last month, telly lovers went into a tizzy with the news of Karanvir replacing Arjun Bijlani as the new lead for Naagin Season 2. Talking about the “replacement theory”, Karanvir says, “I have never replaced any actor as I believe that an actor imprints himself in the role and replacing him is as unfair to him as it is to the audience. I have refused many roles where I had to replace actors.”

Season two specialist

Karan says, “I realise that my career has been full of season twos. I started my career with the season two of Just Mohabbat while I was in college, followed by the season 2 of shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kkusum, Saubhagyawati Bhava, Qubool Hai and now Naagin.” He adds, “No, I don’t take it as a pressure, I take it as a challenge. You need to re-establish yourself, consolidate that position. I love challenges as they make you work harder, make you smarter and more alert. You don't take success for granted.”

Carve his own niche in new season

In season 2 of Naagin, fans of Mouni Roy will get a double dose of the actor as she will play both the roles of mother Shivanya and daughter Shivangi. Karan says, “Mouni and Arjun shared great chemistry as Shivanya and Rithik. Season two will deal with the Shivangi-Rocky love story, and the characterisation is completely different. Yes, people do get attached to a face but as and when the show moves ahead, people start getting used to new faces, that is how it works. I hope to carve my own niche.”

Naagin 2 goes contemporary

Karanvir, who will play lover boy Rocky in the second innings of the supernatural show, also spills out details about the new look-and-feel of the show. He says, “This season will add a modern feel to the show. Both Mouni and Adaa (Shesha) will be seen sporting western outfits. We all play young characters. My character falls in love at first sight, something that happened to me in real life as well.”

A complete chocolate boy

So what can we expect from Rocky in Naagin 2? Karan says, “I have always played roles which were intense, passionate, where expressing feelings was a difficult thing to do. But here I play a complete chocolate boy. If he feels something, he says it. It is a little over the top, I have never played such a character. I have asked the director to give me some time to play it well.”

All for Ekta

One of Ekta Kapoor’s blue-eyed boys, it’s solely for the queen of television that Karanvir agreed to do Naagin 2. “She’s gifted, all her shows are phenomenal. Nobody knew Naagin would work but she went right ahead with full conviction. Naagin as a concept has been working or decades. Naagin movies, naagin shows were all huge success,” says Karanvir, adding, “But there is a stark difference between Naagin 1 and Naagin 2. The show will only grow. Whatever role I have taken up so far, I have always believed in them and given them my 100%.”

No fear of female lead

There have been rumours that few male actors refused to play the lead in Naagin, fearing they would be overshadowed by the hugely popular female protagonist, essayed by Mouni. Karanvir says, “I have not heard about this and I am surprised if actors refused to play the part because it’s great to be part of a phenomenal brand whether you are a shadow or you are the main focus. When I started my career in theatre, I played a 'tree' in Nadira Babbar’s play. You may be playing the main lead role, but if you are not good enough, there is the fear of being overshadowed by another character. You have to make your own space in whatever you do.”

New role in real life, too

Karanvir gets talking about his new real life role as a daddy. His wife Teejay is expected to deliver the couple's first baby anytime soon, after 10 years of marriage. And the excited daddy-to-be surely has his paternity leaves plans in place. He says “Before signing Naagin 2, I had told the makers that every month I would be taking a week or 10 days off and go to Canada to be with my wife Teejay and see the baby. She won’t be back to India for the next three or four months.”

Karanvir admits his professional life will take a backseat with the arrival of the baby. He says, “Earlier I was worried about myself but now I am thinking about my baby’s future. I have forgotten my ambitions. I will take risks, but only calculated ones. Life is going to be different, there's going to be a sudden change,” he signs off.

This is the first picture I'm posting with the baby bump... As the days get closer my heart skips a beat. Becoming a dad is something I never thought of, I always felt that I want kids coz I love then so much . Now it's dawning dawning upon me that a child doesn't only give birth to a mother but even a dad is born. @bombaysunshine and me we both still don't feel like parents or "mom" & "dad" in the making.... We have always felt that parents only mean our respective mum n dad😋😋😋 now there will be a new entity calling us that...completely unfathomable so far. But we are ready and with the grace of God we will humbly receive the gift he gives us🙏. God bless all the new and going2be mum n dad's
