The 43rd Annual People's Choice Awards just wrapped up its three-hour run at the Microsoft Theater in LA, and had quite a few surprises up its sleeves, including Johnny ' Mr Controversy' Depp's first post-divorce appearance and Ellen DeGeneres's 20th PCA award.

Depp, who has been going through a particularly nasty divorce, just sealed the deal on his legal split from actor Amber Heard. The People's Choice Awards saw Depp getting a little emo, as he accepted his award for Favourite Movie Icon. "Through whatever good times or bad you've stood by me and trusted me," Depp addressed his billion fans in his speech. "You have no idea how much I appreciate it. Because in all honesty, we all know we wouldn't be standing up here tonight if it weren't for you," added the Pirates of the Caribbean star.

Talk show sensation Ellen DeGeneres won her 20th People's Choice Award at the ceremony, and was honoured by good friend Justin Timberlake. "Seventeen, I get it. Eighteen, sure. Nineteen, I can see that. But 20 is outrageous. This is really something than means more to me … because it comes from the people," said DeGeneres. "I say thank you, people, and the only thing that would make me happier is if it was voted on by animals," quipped the funniest woman on television.

Joel McHale

The People's Choice night saw its share of fierce humour, most of which was doled out by host Joel McHale. From Brangelina to Donald Trump, McHale was not in the mood to spare anyone. For his opening monologue, he stepped onto the stage with a double stroller, with eight babies in it. "I actually got these as part of the Brad and Angelina divorce settlement," joked McHale, as the audience roared in laughter.

The longest running comedy of this decade, Big Bang Theory, won the award for Favourite Network TV comedy. "Thank you guys so much! It means the world to us that after 10 seasons that you still vote for us," said Kaley Cuoco, who plays Penny on the beloved show.

Only in People's Choice Awards can Blake Lively beat Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts in a drama category, and that's exactly what happened. Lively won the award for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress for her role in The Shallows.

Priyanka

Desi girl Priyanka Chopra, too, won an award for her role in the American thriller Quantico. "Every single woman that was nominated with me today... All of these incredible actors were the reason that I joined television," said Pee Cee as she accepted her award in an asymmetrical peach number.
