Farhan Akhtar the director may have taken a backseat to make way for Fahan Aktar the actor, but there's a new aspect of cinema that he's most invested in right now. We are talking about the web series genre. Farhan's Excel Entertainment, which he owns with along with Ritesh Sidwani, has already signed a deal with Amazon Prime to make exclusive Indian series for the video-on-demand service. The first one from the stable was the widely successful Inside Edge, starring Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chaddha, Angad Bedi and Sayani Gupta. And now, Farhan just confirmed that Inside Edge is headed for its second season as well. "Web series is the way to be now, but the success of Inside Edge has really put a seal on it. We're prepping for it as we speak," he told T2 Online.

Farhan, who was also all praise for Saif Ali Khan's upcoming Netflix Original, Sacred Games, ended up confessing that he'd love to act in a web series himself if he found a script as engaging. "The look and feel of the show is amazing. Honestly, If I had a story like that, I'd be trilled to act in it, too. I am very open to the idea," said Farhan.

There are a number of original series that Excel is producing for Amazon. "Zoya (Akhtar) is already shooting for her series Made in Heaven. There's another one called Mirzyapur we are working on simultaneously," said Farhan.

Talking a bit more about Inside Edge, Farhan added that the show is expected to air next year. While the original cast is expected to be retained, it has not been officially announced.
