It's been 12 years since the last instalment of the Munna Bhai franchise hit the screens, and fans have been waiting for the third part to release for a while now.
The filmmakers had initially announced a 2007 release for the third film, just a year after Lage Raho Munna Bhai. It was set to be titled Munna Bhai Chale Amerika. But the film kept getting postponed incessantly owing to Sanjay Dutt's imprisonment and director Rajkumar Hirani's commitments.
Hirani recently opened up about the delay. In an interview to Outlook, the PK helmer said the script that he and fellow screenwriter Abhijat Joshi wrote was not in tandem with the franchise's earlier instalments.
“We wanted to do the third Munna Bhai film and even wrote a lot of it, but we were not able to match the script with the first two. Now, I have found something, though we still have to write it," he said.
Hirani made his directorial debut with 2003’s Munna Bhai MBBS after his stint as an editor of Mission Kashmir. The Munna Bhai franchise chronicles the heart-touching antics of a Mumbai-based gangster (Dutt) and his sidekick (Arshad Warsi).
