Ishaan was recently labelled a "star son" by a reporter Image: Viral Bhayani
Ishaan Khatter has been in the limelight for quite some time now. First, for making his debut in showbiz with acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi's film Beyond The Clouds. And then, for signing his second project — Karan Johar's Dhadak opposite Sridevi's daughter Janhvi Kapoor — much before the release of his first film. But as they say, criticism comes hand-in-hand with popularity. Ishaan, too, has been targeted for getting things easy in his career for being the son of two actors, and having a star half-brother in Shahid Kapoor. And looks like all this criticism has become too much to handle for the young actor. Recently, when he was attending the premiere of Beyond The Clouds at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), he was asked, being a star's son, what made him choose Majidi's film, and Ishaan immediately lashed out.
He said, "Would you mind if I ask you a question myself? Would you define a star's son for me?" He then went on to say that when he was presented with the opportunity, he seized it with both hands because he is a great admirer of Majidi's work.
Even his father, Rajesh Khatter, leaped to his son's defence and asked whether charges of nepotism were applicable in Shahid's case. "Was nepotism applicable in Shahid's case? His parents, Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azim, were not huge stars. He made his way up," he said.
Ishaan is the son of Rajesh and his former wife Neelima, who also happens to be Shahid's mother.
