Kangana Ranaut doesn't believe in star-power, but content
Kangana Ranaut is, perhaps, the only female actor in recent times who has managed to achieve box office success without appearing alongside any of the Bollywood biggies like the Khans. Or, say, the Kapoors. With films such as Queen and Tanu Weds Manu, Kangy has proved that content and performance-driven cinema goes way longer than those that are powered by star value. But is this kind of clout a double-edged sword for Kangana with leading men feeling insecure about working with her? The actor says that is the case.
“Big actors are hesitant to work with me, and vice-versa,” Kangana tells T2 Online, adding, “Initially after Queen, I was a getting a lot of offers for big-hero films but I was hesitant because I don’t want to be in a place where I just suddenly lose what I have created for myself over the years. Besides, I created amazing on-screen chemistry with Rajkumar Rao, R Madhavan and even Jimmy Shergill. I don't need anyone else.”
In Rangoon, however, Kangy will be seen sharing screen space with two of B-town's leading men — Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor. But this time round, she isn’t worried.
“All three characters are central to the plot, and Vishal sir (Bharadwaj) is amazing with his characterisation, hence Julia (Kangana's character) will definitely be memorable,” says Kangana.
